High School
Our High School program is flexible and our students are encouraged to pick topics that align with what they’re learning at school each week.
Given the nature of the high school curriculum, each student learns content at various times of the term and so we ask that students provide a ‘term outline’ to ensure that what we are teaching and supporting them is the same as school. This ensures they are adequately prepared for upcoming tests and assessment tasks. However, our tutors can work on areas that the students need to focus on and fill the gaps along the way. This can include the areas of; analytical skills, locating and naming literacy devices, developing well-structured essays, and problem-solving in mathematics.Â
After a topic is taught and revised we work through a ‘topic test’ to ensure students are confident in that area and if not the tutors will consistently revisit that given topic to fill the gaps in their learning. In addition to learning and revising content, specific preparation for upcoming assessment tasks can be integrated into their lessons. We can help students decode their assessment tasks, help them complete the assessment, and proofread any work.Â
Lesson durations are for 60 minutes and can be extended to 90 or 120 minutes if needed.
High School Years
Our students from 7-10 who have English tutoring will revise foundational concepts including essays, analysing texts (poetry, short stories, film, visual texts), literary devices, comprehension skills, paragraph structures, and many text types.
These are all essential skills that will be used throughout the duration of high school consistently.We help students with any English assessment they’re given or how to prepare for an English exam. This provides the students with extra support and gives them the confidence to tackle all challenging tasks. We also complete past papers with them to expose them to a range of exam-like tests to help boost their confidence further. For mathematics, the tutor will work through a range of syllabus topics on the curriculum specifically focusing on the areas they find most difficult in order to boost their confidence and fill the gaps.
For students in senior years 11-12 we allow them to structure their lessons however they wish. Most of the time we use lessons to assist them with their study notes, exam preparation, assessment preparation, drafting essays, composing a variety of texts, essay and paragraph structure, and revision of course-specific content.
Subjects we currently offer senior tutoring in; English (Standard and Advanced), Mathematics (Standard, Advanced and Extension 1 & 2), Business studies, CAFS, Society & Culture, Studies of Religion, Visual Arts, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Music.Â
Our prime focus is to prepare them for their preliminary exams (Year 11) and trials and HSC for our Year 12 students. Our senior staff are all recent HSC high achievers and are confident in teaching and providing tips to our senior students.
